Combined City-Pantheatre and Maracas Beach
Welcome to the home of Steel Band! Start your day with a visit to Trinidad's Botanical Gardens, established in 1818 these are the oldest gardens in the West Indies. The beautiful landscaped gardens feature exotic displays of orchids and tropical plants. Then it's on to a 'Pan Theatre' where you will be introduced to steelband and its history. This is a unique opportunity to listen to steelband in its home with an mini concert including classics, contemporary, pop and of course the famous calypso. After the concert you will head to the Angostura Distillery restaurant where a local buffet lunch will be served. Finally to top off your day you will have an hour to swim and relax on the beautiful Maracas Beach before returning via the Maracas Bay Lookout where you can snap away at the amazing vistas before returning to the port.
Port of Spain
Begin your tour with a visit to downtown Port of Spain, this booming capital is the centre of Trinidad's rich cultural life. It boasts of having everything anyone else in the world has, twin towers and leaning towers, a myriad of races and much more. Pass by the Red House Parliament building and the Queens Park Savannah and the 20th century colonial homes of the magnificent seven. Discover the secrets of the Savannah including the fact that Graf Zeppelin and other aircrafts made it their landing strip in the early 1900s. Next stop is the old city with visits to the old slave settlements of Free Town otherwise known as Belmont. Here you will see the original homes of Kwame Ture (Stockley Carmichael) the architect of the Black Power movement and the first Free Slave to own land in the area. Discover the history of Observatory Street and the first line of Longitude established in the western hemisphere. Top this with a little steelpan and carnival history and you will have a day to remember.
