Highlights of St George
Leaving the pier you will drive through the town of St George, established in 1650 as a French settlement and the capital of the British dependency of the Windward Island from 1885 to 1958. You will travel over Old Fort Road, and on to Morne Jaloux Ridge residential area, passing Fort Frederick. Your drive then takes you on to the Grand Anse Valley and to True Blue where the St George's university is located. Stop for photos before continuing back along the picturesque Carenage with its attractive waterfront, fine restaurants and shops.
Mountain Rain Forest/Grand Etang/Annandale Falls/Fort Frederick
Travel through the quaint town of red roof tiles and spice markets of St George and on through several villages before arriving at the Dougladston Spice Estate, a major slice of the Island's history. Take a glimpse into how nutmeg is processed, along with cocoa and cinnamon and purchase fresh bags of spices to take home. Your drive continues through Gouyave, Grenada's fishing village to the shimmering, cobalt blue, Grand Etang Lake, situated a breathtaking 1900 feet above sea level. Enjoy a refreshing drink before descending through the quaint village of Vendome to Annandale where a short but steep walk takes you to a green paradise of rushing water and hanging ferns. Here is home to over 450 species of flowering and medicinal plants and spices. Continue through more villages to Fort Frederick, 800 feet above sea level, for a panoramic view of Fort George.
